Education & Awareness of Human Trafficking

P r o b l e m :
Human trafficking is on the rise in Maryland. Our area is the perfect storm with the rt 95 corridor, BWI airport, sports entertainment, casino, mix of poverty and wealth. Human trafficking is a $32 Billion dollar industry, the 2nd largest criminal enterprise. Pimps can make $200k off a child. This effects kids as young as11, but effect victims up to 60. This problem effects all races, all backgrounds.

O b j e c t i v e :
Support those non-profits that help victims of human trafficking recover through education and training, and to provide education and prevention for the community.

G o a l s :
To meet the support needs for two local safe houses: Safe House of Hope & The Samaritan Women’s Residence in Baltimore County.

We were able to support The Samaritan Women’s Culinary Vocational Program to Educate Survivors of Human Trafficking. June 11th 2013 we held an Empower Luncheon at Kings Contrivance Restaurant to learn about human trafficking in our area, the benefits of the program and hear first hand from a survivor. We met our goal by providing the tables and equipment The Samaritan Women need to have a sustainable educational program for survivors of Human Trafficking.

We were able to help raise money from our September 2013 Music, Wine & Food Festival to buy 16 new dressers for the girls. In addition we are working on rebranding of the TSW "Cleanse for a Cause" body care products to support awareness of human trafficking. We also look forward to working with the girls on their career goals, helping them a hands up with branding and business guidance.

We have had a very education year with Safe House of Hope. We enjoyed being able to help with the powerful 7 Layers Captive play by survivor Stacy Jewell Lewis in June 2013.

We are excited to see the medical office come together with all the equipment we were able to resource and the U Empower Workshop area setup with activities for the girls. We were able to get all new flooring for the client side of the building. We look forward to the Movie That Matter nights this spring with the girls.
